From the Killing Fields to the Living Field: The Ministry of Soeuth and Syna
Soeuth and Syna were born and raised separately, in Buddhist homes in northwest Cambodia. As children, both went through and had survived the communist regime, the Pol Pot regime (April 17, 1975- January 7, 1979), known as the Killing Fields. Although this evil war had claimed a significant number of their close family members, God kept them safe and protected them for a purpose. In January 1980, while living in refugee camps in Thailand,
Syna prayed to receive Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. On May 12, 1982, Syna’s entire family was sponsored by a church and settled in Long Island, New York. After living in refugee camps for almost a year, Soeuth settled with his extended relatives in the Bronx, New York.

In September 1983, a friend introduced Soeuth to Jesus. After meeting each other in November 1985, both Soeuth and Syna felt burdened to share the Good News with their people in Cambodia. After college, Laos got married on May 30, 1992. Shortly after their wedding, Soeuth served as an Alliance pastor to a small Cambodian (refugee) church in Bronx, NY, while Syna worked as a registered nurse to support the family. In August 1995, the Lao came to serve as pioneer missionaries with the C&MA until the present time. Although their roles as International Workers have always been church planters, the Laos are passionate about making disciples, training leaders, and equipping the next generation to be leaders, wherever they serve in Cambodia. In July 2017, the Laos moved to
Anlong Veng, the most current location in northern Cambodia, and they saw and experienced the power of God at work in ways reminiscent of the Book of Acts. Churches grew exponentially—23 village-house churches planted and nearly two thousand people baptized in less than 8 years.
Through 30 years of missionary services, God blessed them with two sons, born and raised in Cambodia. Their oldest son, Justin, his wife, Katie, and three small kids are Alliance International Workers serving in the Middle East. Their youngest son, Jonathan, lives in the US.
Despite countless childhood tragedies and losses, both Soeuth and Syna were miraculously protected and hand-picked by God from the Killing Fields. They returned them to the country where they once escaped, which has become the Living Field for His kingdom and purpose…
